Powerful learning environments, pupil potential and positive approaches.Using diversity in a positive way to maximise individual pupil potential and create more powerful learning environments.
We are a group of four schools from Germany, Denmark, the Czech Republic and the United kingdom and we have joined forces in a staff development project. Over the next three years we will be adding information to this website which we hope will be useful to all our colleagues in the teaching profession.
The schools have decided to undertake an important part of their School Development together. This EC sponsored project is aimed at allowing us to further improve our work with specific groups of pupils.
Dealing with pupils with our various strengths and weaknesses is routine for all the participating schools and we wish to use the strengths of our respective systems for the benefit of all.
For example, Wiesenschule, the only Special School in the project, has a rich experience of dealing with vertical classes. Moellevangskolen has a large number of hearing-impaired pupils and sign language is incorporated into lessons. Mounts Bay School has undertaken a great deal of work on Assessment for Learning and is developing its use of data. All these areas of experience could be of interest to the partner schools.
Our School Development Project aims to enable the teachers of the participating schools to understand the learning needs of individual pupils better and therefore to improve the potential of all pupils.
We wish to exploit the differences of the participating school systems and to gain experience in their respective areas of best practice. We then intend to incorporate this into each school’s systems and use it to the advantage of our pupils. The regular project meetings in the participating schools have been very beneficial for facilitating this mutual observation.
